Recently, I've gotten into watching Gotham (mainly because of an edit I saw of Cameron Monaghan from this shower on Instagram). So far, I'm at the end of season 1, but something that I noticed within this show and really admire is Selina Kyle a.k.a. Cat later to become Catwoman.
Honestly, I don't know much about Catwoman or the Batman universe, but I am familiar with the fact that Catwoman is a thief or burglar and uses her sexuality to her advantage. In Gotham though, she is seen in her younger years, where she is shown growing up on the streets before she truly becomes Catwoman.
Now, I did look up some general information in regards to her background to compare it to what I've seen in the show so far. What I noticed is different in her origins is that in the comics, Catwoman was a "dominatrix" trying to live on the streets and escape her pimp, though, in the show she is a young girl who lives on the streets of Gotham taking from anyone and everyone to get by. The TV series is a lot more PG than what the comics portrayed, but I feel it also shows more of an innocent side to her character.
The show makes her seem like less of a villain (which she's not really a villain to begin with, she's more of an antiheroine). Like in The Killing Joke, I feel like Gotham in general gives the audience more of a connection to the origins of the villains in Gotham and shows what drove them to this lifestyle.
